No more Searchlight?
Before I get t the meaning of the headline, keep in your thoughts and prayers the family of Stan Marshall, former UAW Vice President and Director of Region 1C.
Do you read the articles in our publication? The Searchlight is one of the largest expenses here at the Hall. So, if you don’t read it or know of members who just throw it in the trash, ask them to notify anyone here at the Local (810-232-4130) and we will take you/them off of our mailing list.
Moving forward, we are looking at publishing the Searchlight online for those who prefer to read it online to help reduce postage costs. We are currently rebuilding our website to make that happen and update the usability of the site, so look for that in the near future.
The officers here are looking at all of our expenses to be good stewards of your dues. We are reviewing all contracts and purchases to see if we can save costs where it makes sense.
This building is very old and is constantly costing us money for unexpected repairs, such as a sewer backup, shed break-in and roof leaks, just to name a few. We also have some repairs that need to be made to the structure of the offices to ensure that this hall remains in good shape to perform it’s function.
I take pride in this hall and want it to be usable for all of our Membership far into the future.
UAW/GM employees have a Special Attrition Package (SAP) Phase 2 being rolled out to those who are eligible. If you applied for the first SAP and were not selected, you must reapply to be considered for this SAP. This will be the only SAP offered in 2025.
The catch is that the application process will be online (electronically) in the GM’s WorkDay system. Just remember, if you choose to participate in the program, GM will determine your retirement date, not the UAW.
Currently, possible retirement dates are the first of the month from March through September. The International has said that there should be at least one more SAP before the end of the agreement.
Well, the people have spoken! I know a lot of people are upset and many are excited for the new administration. The next four years are going to be even more challenging for working people. Save your money, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Now, about those leopards….
It was great to see all of the retirees who attended the Thanksgiving Dinners on November 13th & 14th. Our retiree board always puts on a great event. And on that note, to the entire Membership, best wishes to you and your family this Thanksgiving!
Our General Membership Meeting will be December 8th at 1:00 pm. All members are encouraged to attend to hear reports from the Bargaining Chairpersons in the Local. Also, don’t forget to bring an unwrapped american-made toy for our 2024 Old Newsboys toy collection.
