Autoworkers score Major Victory as GM reinvests billions in U.S. Plants

General Motors announced (June 10, 2025) it will invest $4 billion over the next two years across three U.S. plants in Michigan, Kansas and Tennessee bringing thousands of good, union jobs back to the U.S. The new investment will give GM the ability to assemble more than 2 millions vehicles per year in the U.S. This announcement marks a turning point in the long fight to reverse the damage caused by NAFTA and decades of so-called “free-trade.”

“The writing is on the wall, the race to the bottom is over. We have excess manufacturing capability at our existing plants, and auto companies can easily bring good, union jobs back to the U.S. They can prove the naysayers wrong by investing in our communities and putting workers before corporate greed. GM is showing that this can be done,” said UAW president Shawn Fain.

General Motors also announced that they will be bringing the Chevrolet blazer back from Mexico in 2027.

June 7th was a beautiful day for our 3rd Annual Get Youth Outdoors Day. We had a great turnout filled with fun. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Also, a shout out to all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly.

What is Juneteenth?

Also called Emancipation Day, Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, Juneteenth is the commemoration of June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, TX learned they were free.

Did you know?

  • While President Lincoln had issued the Emancipation proclamation on January 1, 1863, it only applied to people in confederate states.
  • Those enslaved in Union-held territories were not freed until the proclamation of the 13th Amendment which was passed by Congress on January 31, 1865.
  • Slaves living in Galveston, Texas were not aware that the Civil War ended and that they were free.
  • In 1866, formally enslaved black Texans began celebrating the event with annual Jubilee day festivals. This commemoration is now known as Juneteenth.
  • Juneteenth became a state holiday in Texas in 1980.
  • In 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation to make Juneteenth a federal holiday to be celebrated on June 19.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Juneteenth!
