Greetings Brothers and Sisters,
The UAW celebrates its 90th anniversary this year. Founded in 1935, the UAW has been at the forefront of the labor movement, winning historic gains for working people and standing at the center of major struggles for civil rights, social justice, and economic fairness. The UAW has a proud tradition of fighting for fair wages, strong benefits, and dignity on the job, which has improved the lives of all working-class Americans.
The Shop Committee would like to welcome you back from summer break and Labor Day. I hope that you had time to spend with friends and family.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently established 988 as the dialing code for its 24/7 hotline. As a reminder, the UAW members at CCA Flint have access to your Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which provides free and confidential professional counselors and behavioral health support services. Check the back of your BCBS card for the number 877-264-6690.
Also, it is Prostate Awareness Month. Men, please get checked.
Early last month, Marine McKay and Matt Q came to CCA Flint for a tour and to have Q4. A few things were questioned. The only good thing about the meeting was that the glue machine costs $5 million.
On September 10, 2025, President Alex Ortiz and our new Servicing Rep., Jason Van Bocxlaer, visited our plant for almost four hours. Jason has never been in a CCA and wanted to fully understand the process. The Shop Committee would like to think that all the UAW on the floor help to explain.
On October 11, 2025, The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walk will one again unite communities. This is the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement. Remember, these 3 to 5 – mile, noncompetitive walks provide a supportive community for courageous breast cancer survivors.
Please remember that school is back in session and children and school buses are out and about daily! Look out for the children, drive safely, and please do not text and drive.
