Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

National Suicide Prevention Month

Throughout the month of September, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies and community members come together to raise awareness and promote suicide prevention. This is an important reminder that we never truly know what someone else may be going through. Sometimes the person who seems like they have everything together may be struggling behind the scenes.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988. Help is available 24/7, and the service is free and confidential. Please don’t be afraid to reach out or check on someone you care about. You are not alone, and asking for help is a sign of strength – not weakness.

Breast Cancer Awareness

I would also like to take a moment to thank our Women’s Committee for selling Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts this month. I absolutely loved the design, and I appreciate all the work the committee put into making this happen. It’s great to see our members coming together to support such an important cause.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Flint will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Flat Lot in Downtown Flint. Activities begin at 8:30a.m., with the walk starting at 10:00a.m. Registration is free, but donations are highly encouraged. All net proceeds from the event will be invested in breast cancer research and patient services.

Detroit Tiger Baseball Game

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, Local 659 held our Detroit Tigers game. Thankfully, the heavy rain held off for the most part, and we only had some rain here and there. Unfortunately, the Tigers ended up losing in the late innings. The turnout wasn’t quite what we had hoped for, but I want to thank everyone who came out and enjoyed the game with us. We appreciate you taking the time to spend the day with your union family.

It’s Trunk or Treat Time!

Our annual Trunk or Treat will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 1:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. at Local 659. This event is always a great time, and we continue to see a huge turnout every year. Mark your calendars and bring the family out for an afternoon of fun!

We are accepting Halloween candy donations at the Union Hall. You can also reach out to your committee members from your specific unit if you would like to donate.

This event has become very popular, and we see more and more cars participate every year. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what this year brings. The more decorated cars we have, the more fun it is for the kids!

Union Sportsmen’s Alliance Calendar Sales

The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance 2027 calendars are now available at the Union Hall for $30. They include a 2-gun-a-week sweepstakes and make great gifts. Quantities are limited, and these calendars always sell out, so don’t wait to get yours!

Remember, no matter who you are, or where you are from, we are all in this together!
