President’s Article

Election Season

First, I’d like to thank all of you who participated in the General Election as a voter or a candidate. Our Triannual Elections take an enormous amount of time, energy and money to hold. District elections were also held for your Committee Reps and Joint Council Delegates. We also had elections for the Constitutional Convention, which happens every 4 years.

So, thank you to the Election Committee, the retiree volunteers, and all the others who helped run our many elections. Without your efforts, it wouldn’t get done!

Second, congratulations to all of the candidates who were chosen by the membership to represent them. It is a huge honor, but also a huge responsibility. Please read the Local 659 Bylaws, the UAW Constitution and your contract agreements if you are a grievance handler.

At the June Joint Council meeting, everyone who was elected was sworn in by Region 1D Assistant Director Scott Zuckschwerdt. If you were not sworn in for your position, even if you were already functioning in that role, please contact the Local to be sworn in ASAP.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as President of this great Local. I have enjoyed serving this great membership in this capacity for the past three years, and wish nothing but the best for newly elected President Anthony Davis.

Now that the elections are over, everyone should get behind our elected representatives, to support our membership and this great Union.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall.
