Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

I hope everyone had a great and fun-filled, extra-hot summer this year. As summer winds down and the school season starts up, just a reminder that the big yellow buses are back on the road. Please give yourself a few extra minutes while commuting.

UAW Local 659 and UAW Region 1D held their 3rd Annual Veterans Committee Golf Scramble on July 26, 2025. I want to thank the Veterans Committee, the Volunteers, and the golfers for making this another great outing. The proceeds went to multiple VA hospitals within our region.

The Recreation Committee will be joining up with the 659 Women’s Committee and Community Service Committee this year to host Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 26, 2025, 1:00 – 3:00 pm., at Local 659. This event is always a great time with a huge turnout. So, mark your calendars.

We will be taking candy donations here at the Union Hall, or you can reach out to your committee members from your specific unit.

Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September. This is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

The idea first became public in 1882. In September 1882, the unions of New York City decided to have a parade to celebrate their members being in unions and to show support for all unions. At least 20,000 people were there, and the workers had to give up a day’s pay to attend. This year, Labor Day is on Monday, September 1, 2025. My hope is that everyone enjoys their time off and will celebrate safely.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department is having a Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 1, 2025. Staging begins at 10:00 am at Bristol Road Church of Christ, 1315 West Bristol Road, Flint. The parade will kick off at 11:00 am from the church and end at UAW Region 1D, 1940 West Atherton Road, Flint. Fliers will be posted inside the facilities and on our social media pages. Come out, have some family fun, and support local unions.
