Greetings Brothers and Sisters,
Coat, no coat… coat, no coat. That seems to be the theme with the weather lately. By the time this reaches you, we should finally be enjoying some consistent sunshine. As we head into these warmer days, please remember to watch out for our two-wheeled friends on the road… look twice, save a life!
As we wrap up this election season, I would like to recognize and thank all of the candidates who stepped forward. Running for office takes courage, time, and dedication. Your willingness to serve this Local is both appreciated and respected.
Strong participation and healthy elections are what continue to make our Union stronger. No matter the outcome, it’s the involvement of our membership that keeps this union moving forward.
Mother’s Day was celebrated on Sunday, May 10th. I hope all the mothers out there were appreciated, spoiled and had a wonderful day. The role of a mother is one of the most important there is, and their sacrifices and support never go unnoticed.
Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, is observed on the last Monday in May. This day is set aside to honor the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Its origins date back to the Civil War, when citizens placed flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers as a sign of remembrance and respect. Over time, it has grown into a National Day of Reflection.
As we gather with family and friends over the long weekend, it’s important to remember the true meaning behind the holiday. The freedoms we enjoy today came at a tremendous cost. On Monday, May 25, 2026, I encourage everyone to take a moment of silence, visit a local memorial or cemetery if you can, and reflect on the sacrifices make by so many. Their bravery and service should never be forgotten.
Father’s Day is a time to recognize and celebrate fathers, fatherhood, and the important role they play in our lives and society. First proposed by Sonora Smart Dodd in 1909, it is now observed annually on the third Sunday in June. This year, Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 21st. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. Thank you for everything you do.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, UAW Local 659 will host the Fourth Annual “Get Youth Outdoors Day” at the Flint Bluegill Boat Launch. This free event for kids will include fishing, a BB gun trailer, field dog training, and many other exciting outdoor activities. All participants must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Registration is not required this year.
We had an incredible turnout last year and are aiming to make this year even bigger. With that in mind, we are in need of volunteers. Your help would be greatly appreciated in making this event another success.
Our updated website has now been live for a year. If you haven’t already, please take a moment to check it out at Local659.net. We are continuously working to improve it and keep it updated with the latest information for our membership.
I would also like to wish my dad a happy birthday and happy Father’s Day in Heaven. I miss you, Buddy.
Remember, no matter who you are or where you come from, we are all in this together.
