Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

I hope all is well and that you are in good health, and enjoying the warm summer weather while staying safe.

I know the mandatory Saturday work schedule has made for some long and demanding weeks. I hope everyone is taking the opportunity to utilize their vacation time to relax and enjoy some well-deserved time with family and friends. We’re already through half the year. It’s been a very busy first half, and time certainly seems to be flying by.

At our LIC unit meeting, we are looking forward to the new business, which some has already begun in the facility. Two shifts have been established and six positions have already been filled. A third shift is expected to be added by October, which will bring the total staffing to five employees per shift, for a total of fifteen positions.

In addition, we anticipate approximately 27 new jobs at the off-site facility Marshalling Building. With 9 employees assigned to each shift.

These are exciting opportunities for our members as we take on this new business. Let’s continue to deliver excellent performance while maintaining the high standards of quality and safety our customer expects.

Many of you have probably noticed the large number of jobs postings. These openings are the result of the new jobs giving members the opportunity to bid on new positions as employees move into those positions and leave vacancies in their previous jobs. This process will likely continue for the next several weeks, until all positions have been filled. I appreciate your patience during this transition.

I would also like to thank all of our LIC unit Brothers and Sisters for their hard work, dedication and commitment. I know the additional workdays, extreme temperature and occasional staffing shortage have made jobs more challenging. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and are sincerely appreciated.

Finally, I want to remind everyone that Union meetings will resume in September. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, stop by the unit Union office and speak with your committee representative.
